Teacher of the Year
SHABE is interested in honoring three outstanding teachers in the field of Bilingual and ESL Education. These will be honored for Bilingual Teacher of the Year (PK-6), ESL Elementary Teacher of the Year (PK-5), and ESL Secondary (grades 6-12) Teacher of the Year. The Bilingual and ESL Secondary Teachers of the Year will be forwarded on to TABE to be eligible for their state award.
This is the eleventh year that SHABE has sponsored a Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet. Details concerning the banquet will be sent in February. We did wish to give you the time lines under which we will be working. These are:

In order to be considered for the SHABE and TABE Teacher of the Year award, teachers must submit both an electronic and hard copy of the portfolio, observing all guidelines and deadlines.

April 13 – SHABE bilingual/ESL Teachers of the Year Banquet
May 1 – SHABE bilingual and Secondary ESL Teachers of the Year portfolios due to TABE
The deadlines are extremely important and must be adhered to for the success of the program.
You may have only one bilingual and only one ESL teacher of the year at every campus in your district. Please use the attached forms and return these with your district winner. We will use this information to print the banquet program. The documents can also be downloaded from here.
The honoree must be or become a SHABE member in order to be recognized at the annual SHABE banquet as the campus Bilingual or ESL Teacher of the Year.
